So, Pebbles and I were frantically searching for some form of entertainment on the telly a few nights ago. Aside from reruns of South Park, there wasn't really much available (a damn shame too after spending around $60 for cable every month!). I accidentally pressed against the remote as I got up from the couch to get something from the kitchen, causing the channel selector to spiral dangerously out of control! When I finally managed to bring the savage beast under control once again, the television was stuck on PAX. Seemed as if they were showing some beauty contest...hmmm, beauty contest??? I love beauty contests!!! So, we're watching a bunch of women from all over the world parading in evening gowns and the only thing that seemed a bit off was the fact that these women ranged in age from 25 to 40+ and they're referred to as Mrs. instead of Ms. Hit the channel selector and we realize that we're watching Mrs. World 2005 live from Amby Valley, India.
Now, I have to say that the contest was quite interesting. All of these women are married, accomplished, and beautiful! In fact, I felt guilty watching these women and commenting on their beauty (what a difference the title Mrs. makes, huh?). If you want to peep the list of contestants, you can click here.
Mrs. Israel eventually won the contest, congratulations to her. I have to say that the contest was quite interesting from the standpoint that it seemed to glorify the women more on their accomplishments and intelligence, as opposed to their looks. However, the fact that the contest had the same shape and form (yes, swimsuit round included) as Ms. Universe and Ms. World sort of defeated the idea of glorifying these women based on their achievements and intelligence and, to be completely honest, I feel a bit sacreligious (sp?) looking at these married women in their swimsuits with the same eye that I would be observing Ms. Universe or Ms. World with.
Oh well, I suppose I shouldn't complain too much, since the contest does highlight the fact that a woman can be smart, talented, married with kids, and beautiful! So respect due to the contest. Can't wait for 2006!

I'm snickering as I read your post, Angry dog and then the comment by jdid regarding not looking because they are married --- married women aren't dead, just attached - we still like to be noticed by others!
